Is there anything that is unforgivable? Stephen thinks so, at least that’s the way he’s been living his life since the accident. He’s hell bent on staying sober, but leery of success, happiness or a future. After all, he doesn’t deserve it. When Neva, a waitress he knows from the Sunrise Café, asks him to take her with him to a new construction job in another state, she gives him a way to redeem himself. “If you do one good thing, it’ll be this,” she tells him. He doesn’t know why she wants to leave so bad but if that hideous scar snaking across her cheek has anything to do with it, he’d like to help.

Neva and Stephen’s journey leads them down a road of self-discovery, redemption and hope, even as they endure homelessness, loss and the pain of an unjust world. As their lives intersect with others who harbor secrets, unrealized dreams and are fighting their own demons, they eventually discover that, as flawed as they are, they can be a compass for someone else. They both come to see that a touch of the divine is all around, if only you open your eyes.
